Can we, or a captain, take the boat out on the water?
No, the Aries does not have an operating engine and is literally a floating condo. (Fishing from the Aries is also not permitted, since you are going to be staying in the marina.)
Will it be warm enough to stay in the winter?
Yes! There is a thermostat for heat and air conditioning for you to set the temperature to your personal liking. Houseboats are designed to be lived in year round, and are just as comfortable in the winter as they are in the summer. In fact, staying on the boat in the snow is pretty awesome!
One caveat about staying on a boat in the winter is what is called Winter Water. This means that the water for your stay is supplied through a 100-gallon holding tank on the boat, instead of free flowing through the normal pipes that could freeze/ burst. This just means that while you're staying with us, you need to be aware of the length and number of showers, and monitor your use to be sure that you have enough water for you, plus dishes/ sinks/ toilets. In additional to the tank however, there is a marina boat house that can be used for showers if you're concerned.
Do you allow pets?
Unfortunately, we are no longer accepting pets to stay with us. It hurts us to say this, since we love to travel with our own dog, however we've just had too many issues even though we tried for years to stay pet friendly and without additional pet fees.
What are the check-in/check-out times?
Check in is between 3pm and 7pm, and check out is 11am. You will have a member of the Joe's Boats team meet you to get you on board and provide you with the keycard to access parking and marinas. Please respect the check in times so that our staff is able to meet you promptly when you arrive!
Does the boat rock a lot?
As a flat bottom pontoon boat, there is not the heavy amount of rocking you may expect. Based on weather conditions and waterway traffic there may be slight rocking, but typically it's unnoticeable. We personally love the feeling of being rocked to sleep at night!
Is parking included?
Yes! We provide free parking for ONE vehicle in the marina parking lot. You can also pay for parking in the same lot, which ranges from $6/hour to $30/day. Limited parking in the area is available on the street and nearby garages, but be sure to read signage for restricted parking; we don't want you getting towed!
How many guests are allowed on board?
The maximum number of people at all times, whether during the day or staying overnight, is six people. We ask that you refrain from inviting additional guests on board or into the marina outside of what you have indicated on your reservation. We love hosting family and friends for gatherings, but large groups are not what Joe's Boats is about.
What are the cancellation policies?
There is a 50% deposit due when your book your reservation and the remainder is due one week before your check-in. The deposit is non-refundable, but can be applied to another booking within the next six months if you must reschedule. The re-booked dates must be scheduled within 3 weeks after the original rental dates.
Is it safe here in Baltimore?
Joe's Boats is located in a safe marina area, located in a quaint, tourist area of the city. All of the docks have key-carded entrances and are monitored by the marina center. The boat can be (and should be) secured while you are away or sleeping.
